June 2nd is Global Runners Day! International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) started celebrating this day with IAAF Run 24:1 last year. The concept is to conduct 1 mile runs at 24 cities, across 15 time zones, 6 continents all on the same day to create a worldwide celebration of Running.
Running specifically over the last few years has got a lot of participation. When a country like China takes up a sport, it is bound to be in huge numbers. We also see brands like Nike bringing out more stuff specific to running each year. In fact, even Indian brands like SG (Sanspareils Greenlands) have started paying attention to individual sports like Running, bringing out running apparel and gear.
24:1 is an interesting concept, touted to get runners; novices and serious runners alike in large numbers. Last year itself they had 12,000 participants across cities like Monaco, Melbourne, Mauritius, Beijing, Milan, and Delhi.
we are celebrating this Sunday doing 1 mile runs at 24 cities, across 15 time zones, 6 continents all on the same day to create a worldwide celebration of Running.
